چکیده

The stoichiometry of CO2 production during the ceric oxidation of various organic acids is measured under conditions with organic acid excess. Measurements utilize a photometric methodology. For anaerobic conditions stoichiometries [CO2]produced : [Ce(IV)]reduced of about 0 (malonic acid), 0.5 (e.g., glyoxylic acid), and 1.0 (oxalic acid) are found. Oxalic acid showed an oxygen-induced decrease of CO2 production, while other compounds such as malonic acid increased the amount of produced CO2 or showed no changes (e.g., tartronic acid). In the case of mesoxalic acid the stoichiometry is increased from about 0.5 to 2.0 due to the presence of molecular oxygen. The results are discussed on the basis of simple reaction mechanisms demonstrating that useful information on reaction pathways and intermediates can be extracted from these simple measurements. q 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Catalytic Aerobic Oxidation of Alkenes by Ag@Metal Organic Framework with High Catalytic Activity and Selectivity

By coupling of Fe2O3@SiO2 particles with metal organic Framework (MOF) the magnetic MOF structure was fabricated. Precipitation and hydrothermal methods were applied for synthesis of core and MOF. Silver nanoparticles were deposited on nickel based metal organic framework surface and magnetic Fe2O3@SiO2@MOF@Ag was obtained. Because of strong coupling between silver nanoparticles and metal organ...

The rate of permafrost carbon release under aerobic and anaerobic conditions and its potential effects on climate

Recent observations suggest that permafrost thaw may create two completely different soil environments: aerobic in relatively well-drained uplands and anaerobic in poorly drained wetlands. The soil oxygen availability will dictate the rate of permafrost carbon release as carbon dioxide (CO2) and as methane (CH4), and the overall effects of these emitted greenhouse gases on climate. The objectiv...

Effect of modified atmosphere composition on the metabolism of glucose by Brochothrix thermosphacta.

The influence of atmosphere composition on the metabolism of Brochothrix thermosphacta was studied by analyzing the consumption of glucose and the production of ethanol, acetic and lactic acids, acetaldehyde, and diacetyl-acetoin under atmospheres containing different combinations of carbon dioxide and oxygen. When glucose was metabolized under oxygen-free atmospheres, lactic acid was one of th...

Application of anaerobic digestion products of municipal solid food wastes in treating wastewaters

Anaerobic digestion is the breakdown of biodegradable organic material by microorganisms in the absence of oxygen or in an oxygen-starved environment. This technology is superior to the landfilling and also the aerobic composting. The aim of the present study was to examine whether the effluent Volatile Fatty Acids from the anaerobic acidogenesis of the food waste can be used du to its high valu...

Temperature sensitivity of greenhouse gas production in wetland soils of different vegetation

Organic matter decomposition regulates rates of carbon loss (CO2 and CH4) in wetlands and has implications for carbon sequestration in the context of changing global temperature. Here we determined the influence of temperature and vegetation type on both aerobic and anaerobic decomposition of organic matter in subtropical wetland soils. As in many other studies, increased temperature resulted i...
